A bit about me
I have been working in the software industry for many years. My first job was as a support engineer. That experience has been the impetus for everything I do in quality engineering. Hearing people scream in frustration over a problem that could have, should have, been solved in code has left a never-ending impression on me. Everything I do is aimed at the customer experience and how it can be better, how we can solve their problem before they ever see it.
Some Career Highlights
Amazon
Back when mobile apps were still pretty new I was the lead tester for Amazon's flagship mobile app. At that time there were not many tools for mobile testing so we had to create our own solutions. Since much of our testing was done on physical devices, I found a need to create a ‘lending library' for the dozens of phones and tablets we tested on. There was no automation for mobile, so we created our own. All of this was done in a fast-paced agile environment that involved coordinating with developers, UX designers, PMs, various managers, and other QA teams.
bluehost
Although part of a large corporation now, my experience with bluehost was as a small local business. At the time they were growing a lot and not just in customers and revenue. They were also pioneering many new features in the web hosting business. Because of this startup-like attitude I was called upon to find ways of improving our testing. I took a PostMan trial project from inception to full adoption in three months. I worked with our offshore team to improve communications resulting in a 90% increase in test coverage. Along the way I wrote & ran thousands of test cases, documented & improved many different processes, and regularly found ways of improving our testing and the product.
The Walt Disney Company
Not the first name you think of when we are talking about tech companies, but how do you think all of that magic actually works? I was brought into a small team within the entertainment giant to build from the ground up a Python-based framework for testing a brand-new web service. This position required moving fast, learning a number of new tools, and collaborating with other corporate departments.
Rane
You have likely never heard of Rane unless you are a DJ, or otherwise involved in pro audio, as that is their business. A few years back they realized they needed software to manage their ever more complex equipment. At that point, I was hired to build their QA department from the ground up. This included creating some custom hardware and establishing all of the QA procedures. I fully documented how to use all of these new systems. Then I did training for new QAs, developers, and management. Although I quickly had a working QA department, I never stopped improving. As we found better ways of doing things, we updated our process to include them.
But that's not all
I have performed testing on desktop applications, embedded systems, Rest APIs, websites, mobile, and others. I have worked with developers, project managers, offsite personnel, outside vendors, system engineers, business analysts & senior executives. I have written innumerous test cases/plans, designed processes, written documentation, done all kinds of training, and written gobs of automation code. Along the way, I have learned and grown so much.I have learned how vital good communication is, written and verbal. I have learned that people, fellow employees, customers, etc. are always the focus of a good product. Because in the end, for me, it is all about making everyone’s life a bit better in some small way.I invite you to review my full work history on LinkedIn
When I'm not working
I tend to stay rather active. Be that on the dance floor, on a wilderness trail, on the side of a mountain, or on some new adventure.
What I Do - What I'm Looking For
I have extensive experience as an SDET and in the software quality field. I have worked with a variety of technologies & methodologies. I have worked with very early-stage startups and established companies. See my full work history for examples of these. At this point in my career I am about far more than testing the software. I very much feel to improve the product we need to also continually improve our process. We must always look for ways to do better. I love archetecting complete solutions that consider everyone involved. I also love mentoring and helping others grow.I prefer doing all of this from the ground up, which I have done before. Be that designing a new test framework, working out a new process, or building the whole QA department. So I think the ideal job for me would be in a startup or maybe an established company that still has that startup drive to improve. I want to apply all of my experience to build/grow people, tools and processes that will result in a product that will amaze those that use it.
